Discussion | Growing concern over rise in cases of chemical poison found in food

JOHANNESBURG – Pressure is mounting on President Cyril Ramaphosa to declare a state of emergency over the rise in incidents of chemical poisoning found in food.

At least 12 children have died from allegedly eating contaminated snacks bought at foreign-owned spaza shops.
Six of the children were from Naledi in Soweto.
This week, more than 50 pupils from Lundanda Primary School near Hazyview in Mpumalanga, were rushed to a nearby health facility after complaining of itchy bodies.
Clearly, there’s a looming crisis.
